When they were making the transition from residential to commercial cleaning in 2002, Lisa and Joe Kania attended the “How to Start and Operate a Small Business” workshop series put on by Pottstown SCORE. They credit this workshop series a teaching them the steps that they had to take in transitioning and growing their business. The amount of information provided was almost overwhelming but important. They especially found it helpful that the presenters were experienced business people with whom they could ask questions and get answers based on real business experience. Even today, 13 years later, they still enjoy a counseling relationship with one of the SCORE mentors.
L&J Cleaning Services, Inc. has grown from a single-person residential cleaning service to where, today, it is a 15-person business focused on providing high-quality commercial cleaning services to over 40 businesses in Pottstown and the surrounding areas. Joe and Lisa pride themselves on the fact that many of their new customers have come from referrals from their existing customers. This is because they take special care to ensure that the customer always gets the same crew to clean their business. Doing so builds trust and confidence in L&J Cleaning Service in the customer’s eyes. Joe too makes sure that he keeps regular contact with the customers to assure that they are happy with the cleaning services they receive. It must be working … one customer even offered to pay more because they were so happy with the services they received!
